Association for Democratic Reform

India’s Association for Democratic Reform (ADR) was established in 1999 by a group of professors who filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with Delhi High Court asking for the disclosure of the criminal, financial and educational background of the candidates contesting elections. As a result, the Supreme Court made it mandatory for all candidates contesting elections to disclose criminal, financial and educational background prior to elections.

The ADR continues to this day, seeking to improve governance and strengthen democracy by advocating against corruption in politics, dissemination of information relating to the candidates and the parties, and working towards improved accountability and transparency by political parties.

Shelly Mahajan is Program & Research Manager (Political Party Watch) at ADR and hosted me on Wednesday 12 March for another informative discussion on the impact of AI on the spread of disinformation in elections.
